Who Is the Lazy Teacher?
The Lazy Teacher is not lazy.
The name is deliberately provocative, but the idea behind it is simple: good teaching should not depend on teachers exhausting themselves.
The Lazy Teacher looks for the most effective way to get the job done, rather than the most time-consuming.
They ask awkward but useful questions.
Why am I doing this? Does it actually help pupils learn? Could the pupils do more of this themselves? Am I solving the same problem again and again? Could this be simplified, shared or reused?
Teaching has a habit of accumulating work. Another form. Another spreadsheet. Another initiative. Another set of resources to create. Another system to maintain. Individually, each demand may seem reasonable. Together, they can leave teachers working extremely hard without necessarily making teaching any better.
The Lazy Teacher challenges that assumption.
